My name is Magdaline Hurtado, and I founded Hello Updo in 2020. The idea for Hello Updo was born in the July heat of the Dominican Republic, when I couldn’t find a hair tie that could hold my big, coily hair without snapping or stretching. That moment made me realize the world lacked hair accessories truly designed for textured and fuller hair types.

Back home, with my Abuela’s sewing machine I created the first Flora silk scrunchie in Biggish. That scrunchie became the foundation of Hello Updo’s mission: to create high-quality accessories that empower people to nurture their truest selves.

As a Dominican-American, my relationship with hair has always been personal. I grew up hearing the phrase “pelo malo” and spent years trying to change my natural texture. Embracing my curls became a journey of self-acceptance — one that taught me the beauty of patience, love, and identity.

Today, Hello Updo stands as a celebration of hair in all its forms — offering high-quality accessories that honor diverse beauty, support hair health, and remind us that every strand is GOOD HAIR.
